If you grew up a Nickelodeon viewer, you are most likely a fan of Jennette McCurdy, who played the beloved character Sam Puckett on iCarly. The former actress opened up this week about her experience with the role and why she quit acting.
On a recent episode of her podcast, Empty Inside, she spoke about her childhood acting with guest star Anna Faris.
"My mom put me in it when I was 6 and by sort of age, I guess, 10 or 11, I was the main financial support for my family. My family didn't have a lot of money, and this was the way out, which I actually think was helpful in driving me to some degree of success."

McCurdy also confirmed she would not be reprising her role for the upcoming iCarly reboot.
While her mother's death was a big contribution to her quitting acting, Jennette explains there is more to the story:
"My experience with acting is I'm so ashamed of the parts that I've done in the past... but I resent my career in a lot of ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles that I played and felt like it was the most just cheesy, embarrassing [experience]..."
The reboot was recently announced in December and will be streamed by Paramount+. The show's other main stars, Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor, and Nathan Kress are all set to return appear again.

While McCurdy's experience was a tough one, we can find peace in knowing she is now pursing creative outlets that make her happy. Jennette is now a writer, director, and producer- even revealing on her podcast that she recently wrote a one-woman show.
"I quit [acting] a few years ago to try my hand at writing and directing, it's going great."
