It has come to the public's attention that Spears is unhappy with the arrangement that is currently in place in which her father has control of her money and other aspects of her life. In court on Wednesday, Spears delivered an impassioned speech to the judge:
"I shouldn't be in a conservatorship if I can work. The laws need to change. I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. I don't feel I can live a full life."
It's clear that Spears is anxious to get back to life without this conservatorship. Her father has controlled her life and finances since 2008.
She continued:
"It's embarrassing and demoralizing what I've been through, and that's the main reason I didn't say it openly, I didn't think anyone would believe me. I'm not happy. I can't sleep. I'm so angry it's insane."
Back in April 2019, a group of concerned fans started the #FreeBritney movement which pushed for Spears's release from the conservatorship. The movement gained traction and there was even a documentary produced by the New York Times and released on Hulu entitled "Framing Britney Spears".
#FreeBritney Mission Statement
Spears went on to detail just how much control her father has on her life:
"I did AA for two years, I did three meetings a week. I met a bunch of women there and I'm not able to see my friends who live eight minutes away from me, which I find extremely strange. I feel like they're making me feel like I live in a rehab program. This is my home."
One of the more particularly disturbing revelations during Spears's testimony came to light towards the end:
"I was told right now under the conservatorship I am not able to get married or have a baby. I have an IUD inside of myself right now so I don't get pregnant. I wanted to take the IUD out so I could start trying to have another baby but the so-called 'team' won't let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don't want me to have any more children."
It seems that Spears is making great strides in her efforts to end her father's conservatorship. Many celebrities took to social media to show their support.
