With Pride Month going mostly virtual due to COVID-19, we compiled the newest movies and TV shows that have characters and storylines that celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.
The Bold Type - Thursdays on Freeform
The Bold Type is back on Freeform with new episodes. But it has been representing the LGBTQ+ community for the past four years. Co-star Stephen Conrad Moore, who plays Oliver, talks about how the show makes it a priority to feature queer characters, Moore tells Advocate Channel:
"It's always been my mission to be a voice for my community, to be the representation that I've always wanted to see. I didn't grow up seeing like black queer characters on TV so to be that is amazing."
Prideland on PBS
Another docu-series to watch isPrideland premiering on PBS. The series follows queer actor Dyllón Burnside as he examines how LGBTQ+ Americans are treated in the south.
Vagrant Queen on SyFy
USA and Syfy are having marathons of the movies and shows that represent gay characters, including Vagrant Queen. The star of the show, Adriyan Rae who plays Elida talks with Advocate Channel senior correspondent, Arthur Kade, about the importance of diversity on her show:
"I'm very humbled and grateful to be able to lead the series and be a part of something so great with all women directors to writers, women of color lead, and LGBTQ+ characters. I really think that representation matters so very much."
Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles - June 16th on Bravo
Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles is premiering on Bravo this month. Advocate Channel talked with one of the stars of the popular reality series, Josh Flagg, about being an out, gay man on television:
"I feel like if I can do anything to help or change peoples lives it's great. I mean, it's just so much easier for people."
