Things are about to get out of hand as Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Doctor Strange!
The Marvel Universe isn't ready for the strange twists and turns this movie has to offer. Kicking off the trailer, we see Strange having the same repetitive dream where his sanctum sanctorum is being turned into a inky, gooey substance. To the left of it, though, is a red light that is similar to Wanda Maximoff's hex reality from WandaVision.
Next, there is a quick snippet of Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez getting strung up by a monstrous mummy. Following this a version of Doctor Strange with a ponytail traveling through a portal that leads to him waking up from the nightmare in bed. The trailer then shows Strange summoning red orbs from the Darkhold, a book that cast spells which is what Agatha used against Wanda.
With buildings and cars melting into ink, it's very identical to Marvel's What If episode of Doctor Strange and the Ancient One displaying a dark branch in a timeline to Bruce Banner in Avengers: Endgame. After Wong tells Strange he can't control everything and Strange asks Wanda what she knows about the Multiverse, a cloud of smoke appears at the headquarter of the Masters of the Mystic Arts known as the Kamar-Taj. We also get a brief look at a Rintrah, a green Minotaur from the comic books who was Strange's apprentice, ready to do battle against a figure who seems to be Wanda floating in the sky.
Rachel McAdams, who will play Christine Palmer, is seen twice in the trailer. There's a glimpse of her standing behind Strange in a blue outfit and possibly another version of her in a white lab coat. Mordo, who is being reprised by Chiwetel Ejiofor, detains Strange for his actions of breaking the timeline. A big reveal that shocked the viewers is hearing Patrick Stewart's voice which could only mean one thing: Professor X aka Charles Xavier from X-Men. Another shocking moment is when Wanda fights a Captain Marvel type person which could be Monica Rambeau or Maria Rambeau. There are also rumors about Hayley Atwell playing a live-action version of Captain Carter, who we got a taste of in What If.
Wanda has key moments in the trailer, where two versions cross paths as one of them kneels and while the other one acknowledges her presence. Then, we get a zoom in on her eye where there are two cells that resemble her and Pietro being trapped back in Avengers: Ultron. People believe it's her two sons, Billy and Tommy, which is why she is on a mission where she will do anything to retrieve them. We catch Wong hanging on for dear life on a cliff as he calls for Strange's help. In the final seconds, a zombified version of Strange emerges as multiple arms form from his body as a black aura surrounds him.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released on May 6th, only in theaters.
