The CWPowerpuff Girls revival is undergoing some major reworks, as Chloe Bennet will no longer be a part of the cast.
The revival follows the original Cartoon Network characters, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, into adulthood, taking their medium from animated cartoon to live action, while covering more mature themes.
Bennet's departure is not the first roadblock in the creation of the series, as the show was originally planned to premiere in the fall, but production was pushed back as the creators decided to make improvements in the writing. CW Chairman Mark Pedowitz described the pilot as "a little too campy" during a press release in May.
Disney star Dove Cameron is set to play Bubbles, and Broadway performer Yana Perrault was cast as Buttercup. Donald Fasion, widely known as Turk from Scrubs, will take on the role of Professor Utonium, a scientist and the creator and father of the three crime-fighting girls. Nicholas Podany was added to the cast as the son of Mojo Jojo, who was the main antagonist in the original animated series.
No stranger to combating evil, the action star Chloe Bennet rose to fame as the earth-bending superhero Daisy Johnson in ABC's Marvel drama Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which was created by Joss Whedon. The reason for Bennet not signing a new deal to stay on the Powerful Girls project is supposedly due to scheduling issues. It is unknown which actress will take her place, as the search will continue in the upcoming months.
