Tom Hanks and Paul Greengrass have a new film set to be released this Christmas

Director Paul Greengrass and Tom Hanks team up for the new western film, News of the World.


Universal Pictures released the latest teaser for the new Tom Hanks film, News of the World. The new film is based on the 2016 bestselling novel and National Book Award finalist written by Paulette Jiles. According to IMDB the film follows:

"A widowed Civil War veteran agrees to deliver a girl, taken by the Kiowa people years ago, to her aunt and uncle, against her will. They travel hundreds of miles and face grave dangers as they search for a place that either can call home."

Hanks stars as Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd and Helena Zengel stars a 10-year-old girl who Kidd wants to return home.

This is the second film Greengrass and Hanks have worked on together. In 2013 they worked together on the Best Picture nominated film Captain Phillips. Greengrass is a critically acclaimed writer, producer, and director who has worked on major drama and action films including The Bourne Supremacy, United 93, The Bourne Ultimatum, 22 July and more! Earlier this year, Hanks starred in Greyhound released on AppleTV+.

The film is produced by Gary Goetzman, Gail Mutrux, and Gregory Goodman while Steven Shareshian and Tore Schmidt are executive producers. The film's score is by eight-time Academy Award nominee James Newton Howard. Luke Davies adapted the screenplay while Greengrass co-wrote the film which will be released in theaters this Christmas.
