It's not unusual for an artist to spend months promoting their albums in hopes to top the charts. However, Taylor Swift's case is different with her surprise album folklore.
folklore was released on July 24th by Republic Records, just a day after Swift teased the album on social media. Today, Swift has become the first artist ever to debut as number one on both the Hot 100 and the Billboard 200 within the same week. In addition to the lead song Cardigan hitting number one, The 1 and Exile, featuring Bon Iver reached number four and number six on the Hot 100.
According to Billboard, Swift is the eighth artist with multiple No. 1 Hot 100 entrances, joining Ariana Grande (leading with four), Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Drake (three each), Lady Gaga, Travis Scott and Britney Spears (two each). However, the singer is not shy to being successful on the charts, Cardigan scored Swift her sixth Hot 100 leader to date. Other songs of hers that achieved this status are We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, Shake It Off, Blank Space, Bad Blood, and Look What You Made Me Do.
As if it couldn't get any better for Swift, she is the first woman artist to debut two songs, Cardigan and The 1, in the top five of the Hot 100 simultaneously.
Swift is better than ever right now and we can't wait to see what she does next!
