As we all anxiously await the 2020 election results, two of Late Night's funniest stars- Stephen Colbert and Trevor Noah hosted election specials.
Stephen Colbert's Election Night 2020
Stephen Colbert shared jokes and featured special guests that weighed in on the results on the 2020 election as he started off with an extended animated "My Cartoon President". Colbert's set included his wife Evelyn Colbert and a few cameramen. Special guests included Showtime's The Circus, Mark McKinnon, John Heilemann and Alex Wagner to recall the 2016 election and make their predictions for the outcome of the 2020 election.
Charlamagne tha God Know There Is Work to Do!
Radio host Charlamagne Tha God appeared, giving his thoughts on the election and what his lasting impressions are on the results if Joe Biden wins this election. Charlamange stated:
"This administration, the Trump administration showed us who they are. The question is will America continue to let them be and will America continue to let any of this be. We have to be the change that we want to see in the world and regardless who wins tonight, me as a black man, I got work to do."
Charlamagne also stated he will continue community building and job building in order to see a change in the world and stated he hopes Biden and Kamala Harris will hold Democrats responsible for the promises they plan to change. The night also continued with a performance from Grammy award winning music group Arcade Fire. The group debuted their new song "Generation A" inspired by the current climate of the country.
Closing Thoughts
At the end of Colbert's election special he left the audience with a few positive thoughts and jokes:
My blood pressure is within normal range... for a truck tire, you could roll my aorta over a gravel road I wouldn't feel a bump.
Colbert also gave a controversial remark stating:
It's actually a good thing we don't know who won yet.
A crowd of yelling boos immediately played, but then follows up by stating:
The truth is, the reason it's taken so long to declare a winner is because we've had such a massive voter turnout.
Colbert's remark about having such a huge turnout means votes are still being counted and we have to patiently await for the results.
Comedy Central's Trevor Noah hosted an election special himself with Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood J.
In the live special Noah jokes about President Trump winning Alabama stating:
In the presidential race, Joe Biden has won the state of Vermont, the safety state of Georgia is still too close to call, but Trump has nabbed Alabama. And you have to see that coming. I mean, Alabama loves football, which is Trump's exact body shape, so that wasn't really a surprise.
Trevor Noah
The night also included other Daily Show correspondents and an interview with House of Lies and Black Monday star- Don Cheadle who broke down what it means to be a "single issue Dem voter", talking about the continuing fight to end voter suppression, and shared his wishes for his daughters' futures.
