In a recent interview, 21 Bridges star Sienna Miller revealed that her co-star, the beloved Chadwick Boseman, made sure that she was paid fairly for her contributions to the film, even dipping into his own salary to boost hers.
In a recent interview with Empire, Sienna Miller revealed that Chadwick Boseman—who was a producer for 21 Bridges (2019) in addition to starring in the film—reduced his salary to make sure she was paid for her work.
Chadwick Boseman, known for his roles as Black Panther, Thurgood Marshall, and many more, tragically passed away in August after a long, private battle with colon cancer. He was 43 years old.
21 Bridges had a relatively large budget, but the studio was ultimately unwilling to pay Miller what she asked for. Miller decided it was important to honor the late actor by sharing what she felt was a true testament to his character:
Chadwick ended up donating some of his salary to get me to the number that I had asked for. He said that that was what I deserved to be paid.
Boseman had approached Miller as a fan of her work, asking her to be a part of the new film. Miller wanted to work with Boseman, but after non-stop work and with inconvenient timing in trying to balance production and personal life, Miller was hesitant to take on another project unless she was compensated fairly. Inequality and pay disparity are far too common in Hollywood, and Miller shared her feelings that too often they go unresolved:
It's just unfathomable to imagine another man in that town behaving that graciously or respectfully . . . there was no showiness, it was, 'Of course I'll get you to that number, because that's what you should be paid.'
