The new trailer for Marvel's "What If?" just dropped. Here's what we know.

Marvel just released a trailer for its new Disney+ show, What If?, which explores alternate versions of the MCU where events from the movies happened differently. This series will follow The Watcher (voiced by James Bond and Westworld actor Jeffrey Wright) as he passively observes the multiverse.

The concept of alternative universes has always been a major feature of Marvel's comic universe, but only recently has it begun to be explored in the MCU. This new series will be a major step in that direction, with zestfully reimagined origin stories for some of the franchise's most distinctive characters. From the trailer alone, we can see that there will be a universe where the Avengers became zombies, a universe where Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) befriended Tony Stark, a universe where Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) became Captain America, and dozens of other universes that the trailer gives less time to.

This will be the final performance of the late Chadwick Boseman, who recorded his lines for the show before he passed away. The voice cast also includes Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Natalie Portman, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Sebastian Stan, Taika Waititi, and Tom Hiddleston, all of whom reprise their roles from the MCU. Characters such as Steve Rogers and Doctor Strange also appear in the series, but with different voice actors than their big-screen counterparts.

The first 10-episode season of the show will debut on Disney+ on August 11, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday.
