In an unexpected move, HBO Max is publishing the entire 12-episode season of The Prince tonight. The animated comedy follows the exploits of the royal family, particularly 8-year-old Prince George.
Based on a satirical characterization of the prince from Gary Janetti's Instagram account, The Prince is a parody of Britain's nobility. It features Dan Stevens as Princes Charles and Philip, Orlando Bloom as Prince Harry, and Sophie Turner as Princess Charlotte. Janetti himself plays George, a zesty troublemaker and the show's main character. Garcelle Beauvais, Erika Jayne (whose highly publicized legal troubles were recently the subject of a Hulu documentary), Dorit Kemsley, Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave (who founded "All In", a controversial lifestyle and weight-loss company), Kyle Richards, and Lisa Rinna, all of whom star in Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, appear in The Prince as themselves.
The show's humor has drawn comparisons to Family Guy, which is unsurprising as Janetti has been a producer for it since 1999. However, The Prince has also attracted criticism for its portrayal of the real-life prince as rude and bratty; on social media, some have likened this to bullying a child. This mounting disapproval may be why HBO is discreetly releasing the entire show on such short notice.
The Prince debuts on HBO Max tonight at 12 AM, Pacific time.
