1. Thousands of Palestinians flee south as Israel escalates invasion
Thousands of Palestinians have been forced to flee their homes in northern Gaza as Israel ramps up its retaliatory airstrikes and ground invasion against Hamas.
According to the United Nations, 2,000 had fled on Sunday, which increased dramatically to 15,000 on Tuesday. The Israeli government reported over 50,000 Palestinians traveling through an evacuation corridor Wednesday, marking only the fifth day in a row that the Israeli military has opened an exit for civilians.
The mass evacuations have been likened to a second "Nakba" — "catastrophe" in Arabic — referencing the violent displacement of Palestinians in 1948 from territories now known as Israel.
2. Ivanka Trump testifies in her father Donald Trump's NYC fraud trial
Ivanka Trump testified Wednesday in the Manhattan fraud trial of former president Donald Trump. Once a prominent figure in her father's corporation, Trump maintained that she was not familiar with her father’s personal statements on financial condition.
Trump is accused in part of overvaluing his New York real estate by exaggerating their sizes, including overestimating total square feet, and lying about the number of floors on a building. At one point, the former president lost his composure and raised his voice at Engoron, calling him a "fraud" whose comments about Trump properties are "a terrible thing."
3. Third Republican primary debate rife with falsehoods and personal attacks
Five Republican presidential candidates faced off Wednesday night in a debate hosted by NBC News. They sparred over abortion, Ukraine, China, Israel, current President Joe Biden, and, of course, former president Donald Trump, who did not attend despite being the party's front-runner.
Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy got personal when Haley called Ramaswamy "scum" after he mocked her shoes and questioned her parenting. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was once again accused of wearing heel-lifts to make himself appear taller.
