Trump Mugshot Makes History... And Memes

Trump Mugshot Makes History... And Memes

Trump's haters have long awaited his mugshot, and when it dropped Thursday night, the memes didn't disappoint. Here are some of our favorites.

Former President Donald Trump's mugshot dropped last night shortly after he surrendered himself for arrest in Georgia, and it's better than any photoshopped version could have been.

With Trump now facing nearly 100 criminal charges — 13 of those in Georgia — his critics have long awaited a booking photo for its comedic potential. And when it was released Thursday night after he turned himself in to the Fulton County courthouse, the memes didn't disappoint.

The Lincoln Project, a Republican group whose selling point is that they are anti-Trump, posted a video from a viewing party of a CNN segment the moment the mugshot was released. The large crowd begins cheering as soon as the image flashes onscreen.

Jamaal Bowman, one of New York's Democratic U.S. Representatives, posted his "official statement" in response to the booking, which featured nearly twenty seconds of laughter before the congressman celebrated by saying: "We got you!"

Trump and several of his biggest allies were charged with violating Georgia's RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization) act. Trump himself was charged with felony racketeering, as well as several conspiracy charges. The minimum sentence for the conspiracy is one year in prison, with the racketeering charge carrying a sentence of five to twenty years.

The indictments focus on fake electors who worked on behalf of the Trump team — those who falsely claimed to be Georgia's official electors and signed certificates incorrectly asserting that Trump had won the state's electorates.

The indictment is Trump's fourth in the past five months, as well as the second time within two weeks that the former president was indicted for interfering with the 2020 election. Yet it was the first time he had his booking photo taken.

Here are some of our other favorite responses to the historic mugshot.
