In this Music Mix, we discuss Carrie Underwood's new holiday project coming this fall - and our Nashville correspondent Sam Alex tells us about the biggest country names right now and their upcoming albums.
Carrie Underwood Releases Christmas Album
Like Carrie said, it's here! The country star's new Christmas album, My Gift, just released to listeners today. It's not quite the holiday season yet, but it's never too early to get in the Christmas spirit - and that's exactly what Carrie Underwood's thoughts were when making this album. She said:
"Even though it has been a tough year, sometimes I feel like the greatest realizations can come at the worst times or in the most stressful times, and it makes you more thankful for the things that you do have."
Underwood started recording for My Gift during the coronavirus pandemic, working remotely with her producer and crew.
Waiting All Day For Sunday Night
The country queen is also back for the NFL football season, as she will open NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcasts for the 2020-2021 year. This is her 8th year working with the NFL, and this year's theme song is called Waiting All Day For Sunday Night. She believes people need Sunday night football more now than ever:
"I think people need Sunday night football. Fans can all kind of unite for a few hours, and they get to cheer on their favorite teams - and we need that bit of normalcy, even if we're going about it in a slightly different way."
Sam Alex Talks Country Releases
Advocate Channel Nashville correspondent tells us all of the new country releases happening soon - including Dolly Parton's new Christmas album!
Parton's new Christmas album, A Holly Dolly Christmas, will be released on October 3rd - and it's her first holiday album in nearly 30 years! Sam Alex said:
"She's got some classics, but also has some new original songs and tons of duets including one with her goddaughter Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, Willie Nelson, and Jimmy Fallon."
Alex also tells us about Keith Urban's new album, The Speed of Now Part 1. A lot of the album was inspired by the pandemic, as Urban was finishing it during quarantine. Alex said:
"There's even a song called 'Out the Cage' which is something we can all relate too, that is escaping our homes and social distancing."
Be on the lookout for more upcoming music just in this month from Brothers Osborne, Trace Adkins, and Wynonna Judd.
