The Rarities will include songs that have not been released throughout her entire career. The album is set to be released on October 2nd, just three days after Carey's memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, is scheduled to hit shelves. During Carey's interview with GMA, the singer commented on her decision to make an album of unreleased songs:

"I found stuff in my vault that I had either started to work on a long time ago and never released or that I wanted to finish mixing, they're songs that have previously not been released. It's exciting and it's a monumental occasion for my career."

According to Amazon Music, the album will feature tracks such as Carey's unreleased collaboration with Lauryn Hill, Save the Day, as well as 17 recordings from her live shows at the Tokyo Dome during her 1996 Daydream tour.

In addition to the interview, Carey graced fans from all over the world with a performance of Close My Eyes from the 1997 album 'Butterfly,' as part of the morning show's summer concert series. Although the performance was done virtually, it was the perfect way to get fans excited for the album.

Carey continued to share with GMA how her memoir and The Rarities intertwine and connect with each other:

"The cool thing about this project is that there are songs that I talk about writing or recording, even as a little kid, that I found in the vault and so we're kind of putting this out at the same time. I don't want to give away too many titles or anything but it's exciting because their kind of like merged together in a really organic way."
