Oscar Isaac's 'Moon Knight' Trailer is Finally Here!

Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight | Official Trailer | Disney+

The most anticipated Marvel series of 2022 releases its first trailer.

A long beloved comic character is finally getting their live action debut. Marvel dropped the trailer for their new series, Moon Knight, less than twenty four hours ago, and fans everywhere are over the moon.

Moon Knight originally appeared in comics in 1975. His real identity is Marc Spector, former marine and CIA operative turned mercenary, whose life was saved by the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu. Spector embraced his new mission of protecting innocents, despite not having superhuman abilities.

Moon Knight is often compared to DC's Batman, as neither have powers but use martial arts and advanced technology to fight evil. Moon Knight originally drew power from the phases of the moon, but that idea has since been abandoned in his comic runs.

Because of his combat experience, Spector has dissociative identity disorder. There are a few aliases he moonlights as, the most prominent being businessman Steven Grant. IGN lists Moon Knight as one of the top fifty avengers, pitching him as Batman if Bruce Wayne suffered from multiple personality disorder.

Riding off the success of Wandavision and Loki, Marvel is now releasing a new original series of the Moon Knight story, with Star Wars' Oscar Isaac as the titular character. They dropped the first trailer yesterday, giving audiences a look at the dark side of the character.

The trailer shows Isaac, referred to as Steven in the beginning, suffering from some kind of sleep disorder. He claims he cannot tell awake from asleep, or reality from dream. He sees flashes of the Moon Knight everywhere he goes, unable to live his life.

Everyone around "Steven" writes him off as useless, until he receives a phone call where the caller refers to him as his real name, Marc. Events spiral from there, with Marc learning to embrace the Moon Knight and the "chaos" inside him at the behest of Ethan Hawke's character, a cult leader who is most likely the series villain.

With Doctor Strange II: Multiverse of Madness set to be Marvel's first ever "horror" movie, Moon Knight teases a tone not unlike their upcoming blockbuster. Moon Knight seems to have a gritty, darker framing, focusing on the psychological torment of its main character. Oscar Isaac's full performance isn't available to appreciate yet, but just the bits in the trailer show a weighted, emotional display that truly conveys the torture in Marc's world.

It is unclear how exactly Moon Knight will tie into the MCU, as it features entirely new characters and stories. Still, with a trailer so intense, there's much to look forward to.

Also scheduled to release this year on Disney+: She-Hulk, a legal comedy starring Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Jameela Jamil; Ms. Marvel, a coming-of-age dramedy; and Season 2 of animated series “What If…?”

Moon Knight will be available to stream March 30 on Disney+.
