Showtime announced that the limited series The Comey Rule, depicting Trump's clash with former FBI head James Comey, will premiere in late November following the 2020 presidential election.
The series is adapted from Comey's book A Higher Loyalty that details this tumultuous relationship with the president, ultimately ending in Trump firing Comey.
Emmy award winner Brendan Gleeson will step into shoes (and tan) of President Donald Trump opposite Jeff Daniels as Comey. The series is directed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Billy Ray.
Also included in the star studded cast are Oscar winner Holly Hunter as former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates, Michael Kelly as former FBI Director Andrew McCabe, Jennifer Ehle as Patrice Comey, Scoot McNairy as former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Jonathan Banks as former National Intelligence Director James Clapper, among others.
Showtime reacted on Twitter to Variety's article about the first shadowy picture released of Gleeson as President Trump.
When describing the political series, Showtime shared:
"the series is an immersive, behind-the-headlines account of the historically turbulent events surrounding the 2016 presidential election and its aftermath, which divided a nation. It's not a biopic, but is instead the story of two powerful figures, Comey and Trump, whose strikingly different personalities, ethics and loyalties put them on a collision course. It's described as an insider's journey down the corridors of power, where decision-makers struggle to apply old norms to a dramatic new paradigm in the face of Russia's deep and unprecedented penetration into American politics, with our nation's rule of law hanging in the balance."
Speculation has risen as to why the series has been pushed back to release after the election. Many fans believe the Trump administration may have had a say in the show's release date. Regardless, the show will arrive in a tense political climate in America following the 2020 election and hopefully offer a brief insight into Trump's government relationships.
