In Honor of Pride Month, Here Are All The Celebrities That Have Come Out As LGBTQ+ In 2020 (So Far)

HBO 2020: Celebrate Pride Month | HBO

To kick off the festivities for Pride Month, here's a list of all the celebs we know and love who have come out as part of the LGBTQ+ community!

As the month of May ends, we enter into June which marks the fabulous beginning of an even more glamorous time of the year: Pride Month. If not for Covid-19, pride parades would be happening all over the country next to festivals and parties celebrating the freedom to love whoever you want to love. To continue on the tradition of celebrating our queer brothers and sisters and gender fluid siblings, here is a list of celebrities who have come out as part of the LGBTQ+ community so far this year.

Former "What Not to Wear" Co-Host Stacy London Comes Out As Bisexual and Introduces Girlfriend to the World

Nearing the end of 2019, the fashionable co-host of What Not To Wear and host of Love, Lust, or Run was confronted with a viral tweet about her and current girlfriend, Cat Yezbak. Stacy London posted the tweet alongside photos of her with her girlfriend in a length post addressing her sexuality. Most notably, she states:

"I fell in love, truly in love, with this beautiful, sexy, kind soul and I won't apologize for that but I stand on the shoulders of a community that fought like hell for me to be able to do that openly and proudly and EASILY."

This is London's first long-time relationship with a woman. As for not sharing the news of her relationship sooner, London says she owed the relationship a chance to be private and "would never hide her out of shame."

You can watch episodes of Love, Lust, or Run on Hulu and TLC.

Make Up Artist And YouTube Personality Nikkie de Jager Comes Out As Transgender

Nikkie de Jager, more commonly known by her YouTube username NikkieTutorials, came out as a transgender woman on January 13 of this year. The circumstances under which she came out were unfortunate as she was forced to come out earlier than anticipated due to blackmailing threats sent her way. In her video, she states the chance to come out on her own terms was "taken away from her", but goes on to say this about coming out:

"My mom knew immediately that I either was going to be gay, or a different type of story. And it turned out to be a different type of story."

You can watch de Jager's interview about coming out on The Ellen Showhere.

"The Good Place" Actress and Comedienne Jameela Jamil Comes Out as Queer

Actress Jameela Jamil sparked controversy over coming out as queer back in February. Jamil is set to fill a prominent role in voguing and ballroom competition show Legendary on HBO Max. Fans got upset because ballroom is known as a belonging to LGBTQ culture, and at that point, Jamil was assumed to be straight. Due to the backlash, Jamil posted on Twitter to address that because of the show's impending release, she was forced to come out after years of hiding her sexuality. She states:

"I didn't come from a family with *anyone* openly out. It's also scary as an actor to openly admit your sexuality, especially when you're already a brown female in your thirties. This is absolutely not how I wanted to come out."

The trailer for HBO Max's show Legendary is out now, where Jamil will be featured as a judge.

Dramatic Pause... "The Flash" Actor Rick Cosnett Comes Out as Gay!

Australian actor Rick Cosnett took to Instagram on February 13 to address to his fans the promise he made to himself living his truth everyday." He starts off the video by saying this:

"Hi everyone. Dramatic pause... I'm gay."

In the video, he expresses how he understands it can be very hard for people to officially come out because of factors such as childhood, society, and, generally, life. He also adds that fans "probably knew anyway" about his sexuality.

You can see Cosnett's acting career from the past decade in his appearances on The Vampire Diaries as Dr. Wes Mayfield, Quantico as openly gay doctor Elias Harper, and The Flash as Detective Eddie Thwayne. All shows are available to watch on the CW.

"Jane the Virgin" and "Briarpatch" Actress Rosario Dawson Comes Out As Queer

February was a big month for coming out, and Rosario Dawson is no different. In an interview with Bustle published on February 14, Dawson discusses her relationship with New Jersey senator Corey Booker, being a Latina in the entertainment industry, and clarifies an Instagram post she made in 2018 sending love to her "fellow lgbtq+ homies". Many people took this as Dawson coming out as part of the queer community, and her response is this:

"People kept saying that I [came out]... I didn't do that. I mean, it's not inaccurate, but I never did come outcome out. I mean, I guess I am now."

You can watch Dawson's latest role in the USA anthology series Briarpatchas investigator Allegra Dill.

Singer Rebecca Black Comes Out As Queer

Ever since rising to fame back in 2011 with her breakout song "Friday" Rebecca Black has remained as relevant as ever. On April 3, Black went on the podcast Dating Straight hosted by YouTube personalities Jack Dodge and Amy Ordman. After beginning the show with talking about quarantine and live during the coronavirus era, the hosts dived into how Black came out as queer and what that means for her. The singer goes on to say this:

"To me, the word queer feels really nice. I have dated both... I've dated a lot of different types of people, and I just don't really know what the future holds. Some days I feel a little bit more on the gay side than others..."

Black's latest single Self Sabotage/Closer is available for listening on all music streaming platforms.

"Little Mermaid Live!" and "Moana" Star Auli'i Cravalho Comes Out As Bisexual

On April 8, Auli'i Cravalho responded to a fan on Twitter asking if she likes girls. Cravalho then proceeded to show the fan her video on TikTok as she was singing along to specific bits and pieces of Eminem's song "Those Kinda Nights". "'Seriously though, jokes aside, how you doin'? You straight?/ She said, "No I'm bi'" as the Moana actress sings along.

Cravalho reprised her role of Moana in Disney's first Hawaiian-dubbed film back in 2018. Check out a sneak peek here.

RuPaul's Drag Race Contestant and Drag Superstar Gigi Goode Comes Out As Genderfluid

On April 6, RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Gigi Goode announced on the show that they are gender fluid. This makes Goode the first person to come on the wildly popular drag show competition to come out during a confessional as gender fluid. When talking to the other queens, Goode told them that they always felt as if they were constantly back and forth between male and female, even when out of drag. In the confessional, they go on to say this:

"Growing up, I've always been interested in feminine things. I wanted to wear dresses to school. I've always thought there was no point to putting a label on anything in regards to gender. I don't think I've ever said this out loud, but I think I'm fluid. Sometimes I identify as more male and sometimes I identify as more feminine. I think that I'm both...and I'm neither."

Gigi Goode was among the top three finalists of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 "Grand Finale" which aired May 29th on VH1.

Whether you celebrate pride today, tomorrow, or always, love has proved us time and time again that it will continuing to show itself in unique ways. If these celebrities coming out stories tell us anything, it's that we should all be proud of who we are and accept that among all the hate and discrimination, love and truth will always win.

Happy Pride Month! Let the festivities begin!
