With the launch of their new content label called Onyx Collective, Disney just set their nonfiction programming team with positive hopes for what the future will bring.

Disney just shared that Jacqueline Glover and Jihan Robinson have officially been chosen to help spearhead Onyx, Disney's new initiative to amplify the voices of creators of color and underrepresented creators.

Onyx Collective will have Glover as the head of Documentary Programming while Robinson will be the VP of Documentary Programming.

Currently, Glover is the head of documentaries at ABC News, and Robinson is Freeform's VP of Alternate Programming. Both will continue to keep their roles while stepping into their new positions for Onyx's team.

In an article for The Hollywood Reporter, Robinson shared what this new position at Onyx in addition to her current career at Freeform means to her and the future of entertainment:

"Onyx Collective is not just saying, 'Here's a seat at the table' but, 'Here's the table, change the world.' No other brand is doing this. It is a personal and professional honor that is beyond measure, and I can't wait for audiences to see what we're going to do."

With their their new collective, Disney hopes to help amplify diversity and inclusivity efforts in the entertainment industry. Disney has chosen the majority of Onyx to be featured on Hulu.

Onyx Collective already has a variety of powerhouse partnerships underway, including Oprah Winfrey, Ryan Coogler (director of Fruitvale Station, Black Panther, the upcoming Black Panther sequel, and more) and Questlove.

The first documentary film from Onyx will be Summer of Soul (…or, When the Revolution Could Not be Televised).

Here is the trailer posted on the documentary's official Instagram.

It is set to be available for streaming on Hulu and in theaters on July 2.
