It's not a cruel summer - it's a great summer for Freeform. The Disney-owned cable channel just revealed that it has officially handed out a second season renewal for its hit series that just premiered two months ago.
Officially becoming the most watched series on the Freeform, Cruel Summerhas it all. The psychological-thriller series follows the story of one girl who vanishes while another girl mysteriously takes her own life.
Executive produced by Jessica Biel, the series features Disney Channel-alum Olivia Holt as Kate, a popular girl who disappears without explanation, and Chiara Aurelia as Jeanette, a nerdy wannabe who may or may not have a connection to the disappearance of her classmate.
The show shifts between perspectives from the different characters, and is told over three summers.
Premiering in April, Cruel Summer has already reached the top of Freeform's viewing list, ranking at No. 1 for new cable drama of the year for women ages 18-34.
In a statement, Freeform's new president Tara Duncan shared the exciting news:
"Renewing Cruel Summer for a season two was an easy decision. It's the biggest series debut in Freeform's history, and the audience response has been overwhelmingly positive."
The official Cruel Summer account took to Twitter to share the news of their renewal with fans in a short video:
