October 11th is known as National Coming Out Day in the U.S.

Yesterday, October 11th, marked National Coming Out Day in the U.S. The day, which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community encourages members to step out on their own terms and on their own time.

Members of the LGBTQ+ community as well as allies celebrated the day which was trending online. Some of your favorite celebrities even joined in to support those in the community.

Not just celebrities, brands and big name companies showed their support as well.

The NFL aired a short PSA during live games which featured out gay and bisexual players in the NFL. The short video encourages players who are still in the closet to step out and embrace themselves whenever they feel ready. The world of sports is a place where many LGBTQ+ members may still feel underrepresented and misunderstood. The NFL has pledged to change that.

"When you are ready, so are we."

For those who did come out yesterday, today marks the beginning of a whole new chapter. For those who didn't, that's alright too. The purpose of the day was to remind everyone that accepting yourself happens on your own time and same goes for telling other people. Nobody owes anybody answers to their sexual/gender identity.
