Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga are performing tonight at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, which also happens to be on his 95th birthday.
Bennett has been battling Alzheimers since 2016. His family revealed that he frequently uses his music as a coping strategy, and continued tour despite his diagnosis. The two night show in NYC, called One Last Time, will wrap up on August 5th, and will be Bennett's final performance in his prolific career.
Bennett and Gaga are no strangers. In 2014, the two released the critically acclaimed Cheek to Cheek, a collaborative album featuring covers of classic jazz standard tunes. Their newest upcoming album, Love for Sale, is a Cole Porter tribute set to release on October 1st, 2021, and is believed to be Bennet's last recording.
Bennett is the winner of a whopping 20 Grammy awards, stemming from 1963 to 2016. 16 of his wins have been for "Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album," including one for Cheek to Cheek in 2015.
On August 3rd, 2021, The State of New York declared Bennett's birthday to be an official "Tony Bennett Day," honoring his "indelible impact he has had not only on music but also our state and nation's cultural landscape."
