The Weeknd’s fifth studio album ‘Dawn FM’ featuring artists like Tyler the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones and more hit streaming platforms Friday, January 7th, and the fans are loving it! He kicked off the album release with a live broadcasting on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel, allowing fans around the world to experience the album together for the first time.
Comedian Jim Carrey also makes surprise appearances on the album, acting as a radio host in between songs. “I listened to Dawn FM with my good friend Abel @theweeknd last night. It was deep and elegant and it danced me around the room. I’m thrilled to play a part in his symphony,” Carrey tweeted after releasing a teaser for the album on January 3rd.
Unfortunately, no physical copies of the album (vinyls, CD’s, etc.) are available at this time. The singer tweeted, “This will obviously impact first week figures. This doesn’t matter to me. What matters is getting to experience the album together with the fans during these times.”
Nonetheless, fans have already started naming their favorites off of the album, with “Here We Go… Again” featuring Tyler the Creator taking the top spot early on. Fans also believe that some lyrics in this song are hinting at a possible romance with Angelina Jolie:
“My new girl, she a movie star
I loved her right, make her scream like Neve Campbell
But when I make her laugh, swear it cures my depressin' thoughts
'Cause baby girl, she a movie star”
“Dawn FM” takes a few steps away from The Weeknd’s earlier work that has a mostly dark tone, with focuses on recreational drugs, self-gratification, and sex. It’s a step further in the pop direction, furthering a journey first started with “Can't feel my face,” The Weeknd’s first completely pop record.
