This time, it's for real. Tom Brady has announced his retirement.
Arguably the greatest to ever step foot on the gridiron, Tom Brady has finally called it quits after a historic 22-season run. Throughout his journey, he's been a seven-time Super Bowl champion and three-time MVP. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, where he would go on to play 20 seasons with them.
He and coach Bill Belichick of the Patriots would go on to make the greatest quaterback-coach duo in football history, winning six rings in two decades.
He decided to cap off his career by playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, adding one more ring to his legacy by burying what seemed to be a passing of the torch to future legend Patrick Mahomes.
Brady took to social media via Instagram and Twitter, stating,
"This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention."
He always was 100% committed to the sport and knew the challenges that would physically, mentally and emotionally drain him. But Brady appreciated his fan base, his coaching staff, his teammates, and most importantly his family. Brady continued,
"My teammates, coaches, fellow competitors, and fans deserve 100% of me, but right now, it's best I leave the field of play to the next generation of dedicated and committed athletes...And lastly to my wife, Gisele, and my children Jack, Benny and Vivi. You're my inspiration. Our family is my greatest achievement."
