After announcing their resignation as Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan and Harry moved to Santa Barbara, California with the hopes of having a more private life. However, they still had pending debt to pay to British taxpayers.

The estimated $3.2 million house that the couple lived in during their time in the U.K. was covered by taxpayers through the Sovereign Grant. Prince Harry, now stepping down from the throne, is rightfully giving the money back to the citizens.

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that their contribution to the taxpayers' "fully covered the necessary renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage." The couple are still owners of the home when they travel to England.

They most recently posted to their former Royal Instagram page wishing their followers safety and wellness during this unprecedented time.

The news of their repayment comes a week after they signed a multimillion dollar deal with Netflix. They are financially independent from the rest of their family and are excited to pursue their life together as a couple.
