Apple and Oprah Winfrey released the first episode of Oprah's Book Club as the podcast as part of a their continuing collaboration.
The new eight-episode miniseries will discuss the bestseller "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents." Published on August 4th, it is written by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and author Isabel Wilkerson. Already been placed on the New York Times bestseller list, the book paints a picture of the hidden hierarchy of human ranking that has shaped America.
Variety got the exclusive news and shared:
"Through two new episodes each week, released on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Winfrey and Wilkerson will host discussions with a diverse group of guests as they explore the eight pillars of caste outlined in the book."
The titles selected for the book club are highlighted in the Apple Books app and featured in an episode of the Oprah's Book Club TV+ series that includes James McBride's Deacon King Kong and Robert Kolker's Hidden Valley Road. Apple also stated that a plan on releasing related articles that correlate with topic discussions will be available on Apple News.
The podcast will be the first to cross over from Apple's streaming TV service, Apple TV+. Last year, Winfrey struck a multiyear content deal with Apple. The podcast episode will be available on Apple Music while the discussion with Wilkerson will be released on Apple TV+ this fall.
