Models will be strutting the runway six-feet apart during New York Fashion Week, as Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the event will be allowed to take place with heavy COVID-19 protocols. NYFW is scheduled to take place September 11-16, but the the glitz and glam will have to be viewed virtually this year.
In a press release, Cuomo shared:
"Safety, as always, is our top priority and we commend the hosts, and all participating designers, for their innovative, New York Smart solutions to bring this event to life."
Models and designers will be expected to be pre-screened and tested for COVID-19 symptoms prior to the event, where social distancing and wearing masks will be mandatory.
Fans of fashion will be able to attend the event virtually. This means no front row, back stage passes, or even media allowed for this year's event.
New York City is known as the fashion capitol of the world though it is still recovering as an epicenter for the pandemic. The event will now rely on digital programming, similar to that of London Fashion Week which took place in June.
NYFW designers will include Christian Siriano, Jason Wu, Rebecca Minkoff, and Maxhosa Africa.
