Netflix To Add Video Games To List Of Features

The subscription based streaming platform with over 200 million subscribers is now adding video games to its repertoire next year.

Netflix hired video game executive Mike Verdu to lead the efforts, who formerly worked with Electronic Arts Inc and Facebook, where he was vice president of "augmented reality and virtual reality content." He is known for creating iconic games such as Plants vs Zombies and The Sims mobile games.

According to CNBC, this choice to expand its horizons into the world of video games is likely to enhance the streaming services competition with similar brands with gaming access such as Amazon and Google.

This is not an entirely new concept for Netflix, as they announced in 2019 that they were releasing a mobile game based on the Stranger Things series, along with a similar game for consoles and PCs. The company is also creating a game based off their original fantasy series Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Netflix says it does not plan to charge users extra for access to said video games.
