Miley Cyrus has had a long history with the VMAs. She started off as a host in 2015 and had a number of amazing performances. This year, she will be debuting her song 'Midnight Sky' on the VMA stage.
MTV took to Twitter to announce that Cyrus will be performing Midnight Sky at the award show. They tweeted:
"The 𝑴𝑰𝑫𝑵𝑰𝑮𝑯𝑻 𝑺𝑲𝒀 is the road @MileyCyrus is taking straight to the #VMA stage. Don't miss her first-ever performance of #MidnightSky at the @vmas, August 30th on MTV!!
Cyrus now joins a star-studded list of celebrities that are set to perform at the show. These include Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, BTS, J Balvin, Maluma, Roddy Ricch, Doja Cat and CNCO. Although the VMAs were originally supposed to take place at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, spokespeople and officials decided it would be better to have outdoor performances throughout New York City. MTV and Barclays Center spokespeople told Entertainment Tonight in a statement:
"The 2020 VMAs will be held on Sunday, August 30th and pay homage to the incredible resiliency of New York with several outdoor performances around the City with limited or no audience, adhering to all state and city guidelines. In close consultation with state and local health officials, it became clear at this time that outdoor performances with limited or no audience would be more feasible and safer than an indoor event. The VMAs will highlight the boroughs in an exciting show and return to Barclays Center in 2021. MTV will continue to work closely with the Department of Health, state and local officials, the medical community, and key stakeholders to ensure the safety of all involved."
The 2020 VMAs will air live on August 30th at 8pm! Be sure to check it out, and keep a look out for Cyrus' performance.
