Lin Manuel Miranda has been in the spotlight for many years. Now, his father's life and mission is the subject of an HBO documentary.
Siempre, Luis chronicles the life and mission of Luis Miranda, and Puerto Rican immigrant and Latinx advocate. Moving to New York in the 1970s, Miranda came to the United States with big dreams, which led him on a path of activism and determination.
The HBO doc premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, which opened to rave reviews. The trailer begins with the Mirandas in a doctor's office, where Luis get an update on his health after a heart attack from the year before. Going "nonstop" for years, Lin Manuel Miranda expresses how his father inspired him while playing Alexander Hamilton:
"...That's pretty Luis Miranda. His relentlessness to keep going, that's what I keyed in on when playing Hamilton, I was playing my father..."
Throughout his life, Luis Miranda has used his voice to fight for representation for the Latinx community. When Hurricane Maria it Puerto Rico, he took to the frontlines of rebuilding the island, and brought Hamilton to Puerto Ricans at the same time. Needless to say Lin Manuel's father is nothing short of an inspiration.
Check out Siempre, Luis when it hits HBO on October 6th.
