It's back to work for America's favorite daytime talk show hosts. From Kelly and Ryan to Tamron Hall, Dr. Oz and the newest member of the club: Drew Barrymore. Many of the hosts are returning (or debuting) this week. While, next week Ellen, Kelly Clarkson and Wendy Williams go back to their studios and back to work after a summer of scandal and personal drama...
US Weekly on the Daytime Talk Show Drama!
When Ellen DeGeneres signed off for her final episode in June, little could she have imagined that just weeks later her popular daytime show and her whole life would be turned upside down. We're checking in with US Weekly's Christina Garibaldi for more.
A Buzzfeed article quoting anonymous former staffers alleged a toxic work environment with alleged sexual and racial misconduct. That led to an internal investigation by Warner Brothers, multiple producers being fired and big promises from Ellen to change the culture in her offices and studio.
"It's been a couple of rough months. But it's when we go through these things, I guess, when we learn the most about ourselves, and maybe even some growth,"
-Andy Lassner (Executive Producer, Ellen)
Now Ellen is set to return next Monday (September 21st) and is promising to "go there" meaning she will discuss the allegations with her audience and won't shy away from them.
"I can't wait to get back to work and back to our studio," "And, yes, we're gonna talk about it."
-Ellen DeGeneres (in statement to media)
Also returning on the 21st will be Kelly Clarkson. She too had a drama-filled summer, after filing for divorce from her husband who is also an executive producer on her daytime show.
From Wendy Williams complaining about doing her show from her home during quarantine, to Kelly Ripa being accused of misleading fans about where she was during the quarantine (she was in the Bahamas, not at her home in New York as most believed) there has been no shortage of off-screen daytime drama.
Now, as the top hosts return to their studios for the first time in months, we'll find out if viewers are ready to embrace their 'on-screen' drama once again.
