Last night, Lady Gaga’s Chromatica tour reached Washington D.C. and, ever the ally, she didn’t miss the opportunity to speak out in support of same-sex marriage and abortion rights — and called out republicans for their attacks on both.

Throughout her performance, Gaga related songs to the political struggles near and dear to her heart with powerful statements.

During “Born This Way,” a beloved gay anthem, Gaga spoke to the queer people in the crowd. “I see a lot of people in this audience who know exactly who you are,” she said. She then moved on to the topic of marriage equality, saying that lawmakers in the US, “better not mess with gay marriage in this country.”

Since 2015, gay marriage has been legal in the U.S. following the Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges. While this seemed to be settled law, when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wadeearlier this year, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas made it clear that marriage equality was also on the chopping block.

Gaga also offered supportive and sympathetic messages to the crowd. “Over the past few years this country has been very brave and showed a lot of courage and there was a lot of pain,” she said during a performance of “Always Remember Us This Way”. “We wish we could go back and change what happened, but I want to remember your bravery.

“I think the world is pretty special, even though it’s f*cked-up, too.”

Finally, Gaga spoke out about the Roe v. Wade rollback in a fiery speech, dedicating “Edge of Glory” to “every woman in America who now has to worry about her body if she gets pregnant.

She called out for solidarity at this moment.

“I pray that this country will speak up… that we will stick together and not stop until it’s right.”
