The lucky guy who took home the treasure is Peter Freedman, founder of Røde Microphones, with the final cost coming out to be over $6 million. The bids for the guitar started at $1 million and continuously kept growing, resulting in several world records being broken.
Cobain played famous songs on the guitar such as "About a Girl" and "The Man Who Sold The World" at the MTV show, which happened to be just less than five months before his unexpected death at 27.
Prince's Blue Angel Cloud Guitar
Cobain's guitar was not the only hot item fans were looking to buy at the auction. A custom-made guitar for Prince was sold for over half of a million dollars. Prince has been seen playing this guitar on the 1984 Purple Rain Tour and in the recordings of the albums Lovesexy and Sign O' The Times. Archivists had thought the possession was lost but had recently been found in Prince's home in Minnesota.
Other items that had been sold during the auction include a macrame belt worn by Elvis Presley and a gown Madonna wore in her "Vogue" music video.
