We are sad to report that world class actor Sir Ian Holm has passed away at the of 88 due to a Parkinson-related illness, according to his agent. Holm passed away peacefully with his family by his side.

Movie fans are no stranger to Holm and his memorable performances. From Bilbo Baggins in The Lord Of The Rings to Sam Bussabini in Chariots of Fire, he delivered a standard that many strive to obtain in their careers. Born in 1931, Holm began his passion for acting early, graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1950.

His career ultimately led him to earning a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) title in 1989. Holm's agent, Alex Irwin, released a statement regarding his passing, saying:

"His portrayal of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings trilogies ensured the magic of his craft could be shared by all generations," Irwin said in a statement.

"He was a genius of stage and screen, winning multiple awards, and loved by directors, audiences and his colleagues alike. His sparkling wit always accompanied a mischievous twinkle in his eye."

"Charming, kind and ferociously talented, we will miss him hugely."
