Riverdale's KJ Apa and Descendants' Sofia Carson will be joining the Michael Bay produced pandemic thriller Songbird.
The film is set to be directed by Adam Mason, who also wrote the script with Simon Boyes. According to Deadline, the film follows:
"An essential worker (Apa) who has a rare immunity, a delivery man who delivers goods and hope throughout the city. Like the vast majority of the population, his girlfriend (Carson) is locked within her home, and the couple have no ability to physically be together. To be with the one he loves, he must overcome martial law, murderous vigilantes and a powerful, well connected family, helmed by a matriarch (Demi Moore) who will stop at nothing to protect her family and maintain her way of life".
The film began production following the quarantine with new safety measures put into place. However, on July 2, a do not work order was issued but production was quickly reinstated the very next day. Last Wednesday, the production lifted lockdown and imposition of new safety restrictions.
Apa and Carson joined an all-star cast featuring Demi Moore, Bradley Whitford, Craig Robinson, Jenna Ortega, Paul Walter Hauser and Peter Stormare.
Apa was previously seen in his first leading role in the faith-based film I Still Believe and plays Archie on CW's Riverdale. Carson portrayed Evie in the Disney films Descendants and the Freeform series Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists and also seen in the Netflix film Feel the Beat.
