Kendrick Lamar is not retired.
Aside from a few guest appearances recently, Lamar has been keeping a low profile. Now, he's returning with his fifth studio album.
The rapper revealed the release date for the highly anticipated project while clapping back at a fan on Twitter. The account speculated his retirement from music, posting,
"Kendrick Lamar is officially retired."
Lamar himself responded with nothing more than a cryptic link to his website.

The website link led to a brief press release that confirmed the release of Lamar's highly anticipated fifth studio album, which fans now know is titled "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers". The full statement read,
“From the desk of Oklama,
For immediate release.
Los Angeles, CA (April 18, 2022) - The following statement was released today by oklama, through his company pgLang at 11:00 a.m. PT in Los Angeles, CA:

Lamar later posted the announcement to his Instagram.
Lamar's last album was the 2017, Grammy-winning "DAMN," which dropped just two days before his headlining Coachella set that year. The record went triple-platinum, and became the first rap album to ever win a Pulitzer Prize.
His fifth album will be Lamar's last under his longtime label, Top Dawg Entertainment. The rapper announced in August that he would be leaving the company, releasing a statement that read,
"As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life's calling."
"Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers" drops Friday, May 13.
