'Joe Vs. Carole' Trailer Drops

JOE vs CAROLE | Official Trailer | Peacock Original

Looking at the explosive new trailer for Peacock's upcoming series.

In 2020, Netflix released the hit docuseries Tiger King. It followed the story of CEO of Big Cat Rescue, Carole Baskin, who feuded with the eccentric exotic zoo owner, Joe "Exotic" Maldonado-Passage. Their rivalry has since gone down in the books as legendary.

A limited drama series based on the Wonderly podcast Over My Dead Body has been in production following Tiger King's success, and now, the trailer has finally been released.

Peacock's new series Joe vs Carole stars Kate McKinnon as Baskin and Hedwig and the Angry Inch’s John Cameron Mitchell as Exotic. It's a fictionalized telling of the feud between Exotic and Baskin that blends comedy and drama.

Unlike Tiger King, which mostly followed Exotic's journey, the Joe vs Carole trailer shows that it will mostly focus on Baskin, and her fight to end animal abuse. McKinnon's performance teased Baskin as a plucky, sincere protagonist with a worthwhile goal, whereas the clips shown of Exotic show his struggle with his sexuality and mental health.

The trailer also reveals another element on the series---the making of Tiger King. In the clips, both Baskin and Exotic are shown being filmed by a documentary crew, teasing that this new series may cover the impact the 2020 hit had not just on the world, but on Baskin and Exotic themselves.

Baskin famously did not appreciate her portrayal in Tiger King. She reacted to the teaser of Joe vs Carole last month, stating,

"My husband and I look forward to seeing Kate McKinnon and Kyle McLaughlin’s portrayal of us, even though we expect it will be a parody based on the trailer. Both are talented actors and I expect 'Joe vs Carole' will be a lot more entertaining than the situation was in real life."

She cited her main issue with Tiger King related media was that none of them focus on the important issue at hand---animal abuse. With these new clips available, Joe vs Carole promises to tackle that head on.

Joe vs Carole premieres March 3 exclusively on Peacock.
