Lorne Michaels landed the A-lister to play the democratic candidate for president.

During an election cycle, Saturday Night Live is known to go to the next level, creating iconic skits featuring political figures of the day. Now that the election is only 47 days, the hit sketch series is bringing on a big talent to portray Joe Biden.

Jim Carrey, who has hosted SNL twice before in 1996 and 2011, has been hand picked to play Vice President Biden this upcoming season. The announcement came along with an update on how SNL will go about the season amid the coronavirus pandemic. Show creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels shared with Vulture the process behind landing Carrey, saying:

The was some interest on his part. And then we responded, obviously, positively. But it came down to discussions about what the take was. He and Colin Jost had a bunch of talks. He and I as well. He will give the part energy and strength, and...[laughs] Hopefully it's funny."

It's no secret that Michaels has a knack for selecting actors for certain political figures. Given this, expectations are high for Carrey as SNL could have one of its more successful political coverages in recent memory.

Along with the Carey announcement, SNL laid out its plans for the upcoming season. The show will start with five consecutive episodes for October 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st. Also, studio 8H will have a limited in-studio audience under the guidance of Governor Andrew Cuomo and his team.

For the 46th season, SNL will also welcome three new cast members: Andrew Dismukes, Lauren Holt, and Punkie Johnson.

Be sure to tune in for the season premiere on October 3rd.
