After filming wrapped this February, we finally have a trailer for the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic Respect starring Jennifer Hudson.
A Star-Studded Cast and Crew
Only after one day, the trailer for Respect has already garnered over a million views. Written by Tracey Scott Wilson, MGM is set to release the biopic on Christmas Day 2020. Liesl Tommy, the director of the film, is also known for working on the HBO series Insecure and the Netflix series Dolly Parton's Heartstrings. Along with Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige plays the role of recording artist Dinah Washington, Forest Whitaker stars as Aretha's father, Audra McDonald as Aretha's mother, Kimberly Scott as Aretha's "Big Mama" Franklin, Marlon Wayans as Aretha's first husband, Marc Maron as the Atlantic Records music producer, and many more.
"Find Out What It Means" To Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Hudson took the role of Aretha Franklin with much distinction and honor. Hudson was chosen by the Queen of Soul herself to play her in the biopic when the project was first being created. She actually performed Amazing Grace at Franklin's funeral in 2018.
