The Trial of the Chicago 7 on Netflix

How's this for a cast: Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Frank Langella, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Jeremy Strong, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch and Alex Sharp. They have more Oscars, Emmys and Golden Globes then we can count.

Writer/Director Aaron Sorkin brought them all together, for his new film: The Trial of the Chicago 7.

It's based on the true story, of the protesters who were arrested outside the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The issues raised in the film couldn't be more timely: government overreach, free speech, abuse of power, police misconduct, racial injustice, social injustice. As Sorkin said:

"This movie is not about 1968, it's about today. I've been asked if I changed the screenplay or the film at all, to mirror events in this country? No. Events in this country changed, to mirror this script."

The movie is streaming now on Netflix.

A West Wing Special on HBO Max

Sorkin's first mega hit tv show was The West Wing which ran on NBC from 1999-2006 and won the Emmy award for Best Drama Series, 4 years in a row. Sorkin created, produced and wrote the series about the staff inside a fictional White House administration.

Now, with the upcoming election on November 3rd, Sorkin got the entire cast back together again, for a staged reading of a script from one of the original episodes.

If you were a fan of the series, you will love this special! Even without a live audience, and social distancing measures in place, seeing this great cast, and even the original actors who played reporters or White House aides (basically background extras) all together again, will flood you with nostalgia. Everyone from Martin Sheen to Rob Lowe, Allison Janney and even guest stars like Elizabeth Moss, Emily Procter and Marlee Matlin make appearances. The only one missing is the late John Spencer who passed away during the show's final season. His role is played by Sterling K. Brown.
