Gun safety is a major issue in America. With seven mass shootings in just one week, the Gun Safety Alliance is now hosting an event, open to all, on what to do next.
Seven Days: Seven Mass Shootings
On March 16, eight people died in Atlanta, Georgia after a shooter attacked three massage parlors. Six of the victims were Asian women: mothers, daughters, sisters. (Names: Soon Chung Park, Hyun Jung Grant, Suncha Kim and Yong Ae Yue) The violence has surged an uproar in the #StopAsianHate movement and had been brought to legislation as evidence of discrimination against Asian Americans.
On March 20, five were wounded by a shooting at the Maserati Club in Houston, Texas. The same day eight were wounded and one woman died at a nightclub shooting in Dallas. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia five were wounded and one dead during a shooting at a party.
On March 22, ten were killed in Boulder, Colorado after a gunman opened fire at a King Soopers supermarket. Many others were injured.
On March 27, five were wounded in a drive-by shooting at a vigil in Stockton, California. One of those injured was a 15-year-old boy.
During the same week, four were wounded after a shooting in Portland, Oregon.
What Defines a Mass Shooting?
A mass shooting is defined as an event where four or more individuals are injured due to gun violence, not including the attacker. Throughout the past week, 27+ were wounded and 20 were killed.
What Can We Do To Help?
The Gun Safety Alliance (GSA) is hosting a Clubhouse Town Hall session Wednesday March 31 at 8:30 pm EST. All are welcome and invited to get educated on what they can do to impact gun violence.
