Celebrities Demand New Gun Legislation

Last week, both the House and Senate introduced legislation that would require background checks for every gun sale in the United States, giving Americans a chance to have safer gun laws for the first time in over 25 years. In the wake of the shootings in Atlanta and Boulder in the past week that have left dozens of Americans dead, celebrities are rallying around the cry for the Democrat-controlled House and Senate to pass stricter gun control laws.

With both H.R.8. and H.R.1446 passing the House, there's nothing but positive momentum for gun legislation for the first time in nearly three decades.

Andy Richter

The comedian and longtime cohort of Conan O'Brien on TBS voiced his support for the new legislation, backing former House Representative Gabby Giffords in her efforts to get the bills through the Senate floor. Giffords retired from the House back in 2012, after suffering a severe brain injury from an assassination attempt. Since then, she's recovered remarkably well and has used her position to make a strong push for gun control.

Mia Farrow

The actress and activist took to Twitter this morning in the wake of the shootings in Colorado this morning to demand change in gun reform from Congress.

Melissa Fumero

The co-star of the NBC sitcomBrooklyn 99stands with HR8 and the effort to end gun violence as well.

Barack Obama

Former President of the United States Barack Obama delivered a lengthy statement via his Twitter this afternoon in reaction to the horrifying events.

We cannot allow money and political agendas to be prioritized over the lives of our fellow Americans, time and time again. It was time for change after Columbine, it was time for change after Sandy Hook, and Boulder, and Atlanta, and Aurora, and Orlando, and Las Vegas, and it's time for change now. This is the first time in years that all the pieces are in place to finally make progress in making America a safer place to be.
