Guardians of the Galaxy is the latest Marvel comic to transition into the gaming world. Will it live up to the movies and comics that it originates from or be torn apart by the gaming world?
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is a new single-player narrative-driven game set to be released on October 26th, 2021.
The first trailer was released at this year's E3 virtual conference. Marvel Games and Square Enix confirmed the rumors about the game and the developers, Eidos-Montreal, were present to give some more details about the trailer and first look at the gameplay.
The creators briefly discussed the '80s soundtrack that is present on the Milano ship and in different fights. The developers made sure to stay true to the comics and movies in this sense as players are able to listen to Star-Lord's tape-recorder throughout.
Players will only be able to go through the game as Peter Quill, AKA Star-Lord, however the way you interact with other characters' as well as their own decisions and abilities will have a serious impact on the game as well.
The game will not be open-world as it is narrative-driven. Don't expect a Skyrimtype world for this game, but hopefully it ends up similar to playing as Cal Kestis in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Marvel has had a couple of flops in the gaming world, however the most recent Spiderman games were quite successful and play very similarly to the gameplay we see here.
The game will not be canon as it is not directly affiliated with the Marvel universe. The characters themselves look very different than Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the rest of the crew from the movies. The game is largely comic-based which may please fans but can also majorly disappoint those looking to dive directly into the MCU.
Some of the characters from the game may be seen in future movies because both are based on the comics. If you are a Marvel fan, go into the game with little expectations and you may be surprised with how much you enjoy it.
It's our first glimpse at everything so be sure to stay updated with our video game news and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
