One of Netflix's top shows is back with another changing of the guard. We will see all new actors playing the lead roles and the big names have us excited!
The Crownis known as one of Netflix's best shows with a big budget and a plethora of awards that include Emmys and Golden Globes. Critics and audiences alike have appreciated this show for years and the all-new cast reveal as well as new information about the plot and release date have us all excited.
We first saw Diana the Princess of Wales played by Emma Corrin in season 4 of the series, while the Queen was played by Olivia Colman starting in season 3. It looks like season 5 marks another significant shift in the series as Imelda Staunton takes over the role of the Queen and Elizabeth Debicki joins the cast as Princess Diana.
This new changing of the guard was expected as the entire cast shifted from seasons 2-3 as well to represent a different era of the royal family. We were expecting the shift in the era but the actual casting was surprising and exciting to see as we inch closer to the release.
Take a look at all of the actors that received award nominations in the past with this video above as we go over some members of the new cast that we expect to join that exclusive group.
You may best know Imelda Staunton from her famous role as Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potterfranchise, but she also is an Oscar-nominated actress for Vera Drakeand has a ton of great work under her belt.
Elizabeth Debicki has been generating a lot of buzz for her physical similarity to Princess Diana, however she is also a very accomplished actress. The Australian actress starred in Baz Luhrmann'sThe Great Gatsbyand Widows.
Another notable addition is the new Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh played by Jonathon Pryce. Pryce is a very well-known actor as he played the High Sparrow in Game of Thronesand was nominated for an Academy Award last year for his role in Netflix's The Two Popes.
So far we know that season 5 will start with the early 90's and go into the 21st century. This gives us a lot of possible scenarios with the infamous divorces, Princess Diana's tragic death, Prince William and Kate Middleton meeting, etc.
We can expect the series to return in late 2021 or early 2022 as the filming has been progressing well, however fans also have more to be excited about as the creators have stated in interviews that they are returning to the original plan of having 6 seasons rather than 5.
We could not be more excited for the premiere and all of the updates are keeping us heavily invested in the show! Be sure to stay up to date with all of The Crown news as it releases! Click Here
