Emma Roberts Cast In Madame Web

Emma Roberts has been cast in "Madame Web," the newest movie in Sony's Spider-Verse, according to Deadline.

"Madame Web" is the origin story for the comic book character whose abilities prove to be greatly beneficial to Spider-Man and his team, but due to a condition, she never battles villains herself.

While it is still unknown who Roberts is going to play in the movie, the 31-year-old "Scream Queens" actress is joining an all-star cast. Dakota Johnson is going to lead the movie as the titular character. Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O'Connor, Isabela Merced and Tahar Rahim have also all signed on to the project, although none of their roles have been announced yet.

S.J. Clarkson is going to be directing the movie. Her other directorial credits include Netflix's "Jessica Jones" and "The defenders." The screenplay will be written by Kerem Sanga, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

"Madame Web" is Sony's first comic adaptation featuring a female lead. The film is part of the push to diversify the Sony Spider-verse. Sony has also recently announced "El Muerto," starring Bad Bunny. This movie will be the first superhero film to feature a Latino lead.

"Madame Web" is scheduled to release in theaters on July 17, 2023.
