Ellen DeGenerous Prepares To Resume Show and Address Summer Controversy

Ellen DeGenerous

The Ellen DeGeneres Show is set to begin new episodes airing September 21.

Ellen is back! Though, not everyone is applauding. The Ellen DeGeneres Show confirmed in a press release that season 18 of the popular entertainment talkshow will begin airing new episodes starting September 21st.

The announcement comes with mixed reactions as Ellen DeGeneres herself has been tied to quite a bit of controversy over the past few months. It began over the summer when ten former and one current staff member came forward claiming the show was a "toxic environment" to work in.

One former staff member blamed executive producers Andy Lassner, Mary Connelly, and Ed Glavin in a statement:

"The issue is these three executive producers running the show who are in charge of all these people [and] who make the culture and are putting out this feeling of bullying and being mean."

In response, the three executive producers released this statement:

"Over the course of nearly two decades, 3,000 episodes, and employing over 1,000 staff members, we have strived to create an open, safe, and inclusive work environment. We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience."

WarnerMedia which had produces the show since its beginning in 2003, had opened an investigation in response to the claims. Lassner, Connelly, and Glavin later faced sexual harassment claims before "parting ways" with the show this summer.

In a video conference, Ellen apologized to staffers while promising them a better future working environment:

"I'm a multi-layered person, and I try to be the best person I can be and I try to learn from my mistakes," she said. "I'm hearing that some people felt that I wasn't kind or too short with them, or too impatient. I apologize to anybody if I've hurt your feelings in any way."

The season premiere will feature guest Tiffany Haddish on September 21st.
