Former President Donald Trump has said he will turn himself in on Thursday to be arrested following his indictment in Georgia.

"Can you believe it? I'll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be ARRESTED," he wrote on his Truth Social account Monday.

Trump Will Surrender Thursday

Earlier this month, Trump and several of his biggest allies were indicted, such as lawyer Rudy Giuliani and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The 41 counts also name lawyers John Eastman, Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro, Jenna Ellis, and Ray Smith, among many others.

All have been charged with violating Georgia's RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization) act. Trump himself was charged with felony racketeering, as well as several conspiracy charges. The minimum sentence for the conspiracy is one year in prison, with the racketeering charge carrying a sentence of five to twenty years.

The indictments focus on fake electors who worked on behalf of the Trump team — those who falsely claimed to be Georgia's official electors and signed certificates incorrectly asserting that Trump had won the state's electorates.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis issued arrest warrants for all of the defendants, and set a deadline of August 25 for them to surrender voluntarily. She has also stated that she is aiming for a trial date to be set within the next six months, well before the 2024 presidential election.

According to an agreement between Trump's lawyers and Willis, the former president's bond has been set at $200,000 ($310,000). Hhe has also been instructed not to send threatening messages on social media as he awaits his trial.

The indictment is Trump's fourth in the past five months, as well as the second time within two weeks that the former president was indicted for interfering with the 2020 election. He is currently the frontrunner for the Republican party in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
