After a relationship that spans nearly three decades, Don Cheadle and Brigid Coulter are finally tying the knot. The reason for this? Taxes.

"Our accountant proposed to both of us and he showed us the numbers, and we said yeah, we should probably do it," joked Cheadle in an interview. "It came up a lot of times. But every time, we were like, 'But we're already together?' He's like, 'Yeah, but this is a better reason to be together.' Really it's because our accountant proposed to us, I wish there were some big sweet romantic story, but the romance happened, you know, the first year."

It's no secret that filing taxes jointly as a married couple is usually the best course of action (new deductions and credits can become available and the higher-earning member may even qualify for a lower tax bracket), but one has to wonder just how gargantuan Cheadle's taxes are to justify such a change after so long. As for a wedding, Coulter says the couple had a private ceremony in their backyard with just them and their two children, Ayana (26) and Imani (24).

Aside from officializing his marriage, Cheadle has been having a very eventful 2021. Recently, he was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his three minutes of screen time in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where he reprised his role as Marvel character James Rhodes. Cheadle himself was confused by the nomination, as his appearance in the show was little more than a cameo.
