Dolly Parton was granted credit in The New England Journal of Medicine and the official preliminary report of the Moderna vaccine as a contributor to the research at Vanderbilt University through her generous donation of $1 million dollars.
Dolly Parton's Donation to Vanderbilt
In April 2020, Parton took to her Instagram to announce her donation to Vanderbilt's research towards a coronavirus vaccine. Parton met Vanderbilt's Dr. Naji Abumrad years ago after she got into a car accident. Years later, Parton writes that Dr. Abumrad informed her of advancements towards a cure for the coronavirus, in which she donated $1 million towards.
Parton ends her statement with the quote,
"I am making a donation of $1 million to Vanderbilt towards that research and to encourage people that can afford it to make donations. Keep the faith, Dolly"
Parton has been credited in the official preliminary report on the Moderna vaccine as "the Dolly Parton Covid-19 Research Fund."
During a recent visit to the TODAY set, Parton stated,
"I'm just happy that anything I do can help somebody else, and when I donated the money to the Covid fund, I just wanted it to do good. Evidently, it is. Let's just hope we find a cure real soon."
Dolly Parton's Career
Dolly Parton gained fame through her amazing country singing career, but that has obviously evolved into different avenues as well including philanthropy, writing, and acting.
Parton is widely known for her hits "9 to 5" (1980) and "Jolene" (1974). Parton has also acted in Joyful Noise (2012) and Steel Magnolias (1989), along with numerous other films and television shows.

Dolly Parton's 'Christmas on The Square'
Dolly Parton also has a new film coming out on Netflix called Christmas on the Square. Parton plays a fairy godmother of sorts to the town scrooge played by Christine Baranski.
Parton wrote 14 original songs for the film and it is directed by world-renowned choreographer Debbie Allen.
Fans can watch the new Christmas film on November 22nd, only on Netflix.
A Holly Dolly Christmas
On top of all of this, Parton also released her first Christmas album in 30 years titled A Holly Dolly Christmas with features from artists such as Miley Cyrus, Michael Buble, Jimmy Fallon, Billy Ray Cyrus, Willie Nelson, and her brother Randy Parton.
From albums, books, and movies to funding a cure for the coronavirus, Dolly Parton has been keeping busy. Her donation is also supporting a convalescent-plasma study, so it's safe to assume that Dolly Parton has saved 2020.
