Coldplay has officially given their heartbreaking hit single an emotional video to match.
The song 'Let Somebody Go' is a simple yet emotional breakup song about, you guessed it, letting someone go. It deals with the pain of losing someone for reasons beyond one's control, whether it be a messy breakup, or simply life pulling two people in opposite directions.
The video is shot in black and white, and shows Gomez and Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin, deal with just that. Only instead of being metaphorically pulled apart, they're physically separated. With visual effects akin to Marvel's Doctor Strange, Gomez is shown to flip upside down as the two explore a world folding in on itself. Buildings crumble and build on top of each other, all as the background world spirals into an unrecognizable landscape.
Gomez and Martin end up on an infinite staircase reminiscent of David Bowie's Labyrinth, with Gomez walking upside down, until they embrace again and fly through this crazy new world together. Of course, it wouldn't be a breakup song unless they separate once again, and the world returns to normal.
Gomez shared that she is "so excited" for the video's release, but Martin says that in terms of Coldplay, this marks the beginning of the end for the band. He claimed that they will stop recording new music in 2025, as he stated in an interview,
"Well I know I can tell you, our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour. Maybe we'll do some collaborative things, but the Coldplay catalog, as it were, finishes then."
Coldplay is heading on an international tour that kicks off in Costa Rica on March 18. Gomez is currently filming the second season of her show, Only Murders in the Building, available to stream on Hulu.
